Rheola Bridge, Porth, South Wales UK

Rheola pub and bridge arch

Named after a local pub, this landmark bridge forms an integral element of the £85m Porth and Lower Rhondda Fach Relief Road in South Wales. The bow string arch bridge with a span of approaching 100m passes over two rivers, a railway line and an existing road. A description of the overall scheme including the bridge was published by Constructing Excellence.

Fairfield-Mabey Ltd are the UK market leader in the supply and erection of steel highway bridges and have selected Daver Steels tie bars on several projects. The steel construction involved in the bridge is described in New Steel Construction.

For the Rheola Bridge project Daver Steels supplied 22 number M90 tie bars fully assembled and with a complete paint system applied.

Daver Steels also supplied jacking equipment and expertise to allow the tie bars to be stressed upto 600kN once installed.
